The Signal security breach was terrible for many reasons. This bunch of high level Trump administration officials should be smarter than to discuss this information on Signal rather than a secure server. They should also know — and respect — the need and legality of retaining government records. They cheered a bombing of a civilian site — a war crime. They also insulted our allies, adding to the already devolving relationships with them. After being caught, they claimed the info was not classified. If that were the case, this administration is even more incompetent than they appear. They also spent a lot of time and energy insulting and blaming Jeffrey Goldberg and the press. To top it off, Trump and Pam Bondi are not planning to do anything beyond a slap on the wrist to their officials. SO it is up to Congress to investigate this situation and make clear that this incompetence and bad behavior requires real consequences. Boy, I wish I had faith in the Congress to step up. I fear Congress will do nothing and America will be less secure, less honorable and seen as an untrustworthy ally. This administration has been in power for only two months, How much more damage and destruction at home and abroad do we need to suffer before Congress — on of the 3 co-equal branches of government — reclaims it’s authority and stand up to this would-be dictator?
