The planned large-scale layoffs and reorganizations across federal agencies are deeply concerning and risk severely undermining vital government functions and services. These drastic workforce reductions, impacting potentially hundreds of thousands of civil servants, threaten to cripple agencies' ability to fulfill their core missions and responsibilities to the American people. Instead of recklessly slashing jobs, we should be investing in a well-staffed federal workforce to effectively administer programs, ensure proper oversight, and maintain vital public services that citizens rely upon daily. Hasty and indiscriminate cuts will inevitably degrade the quality and availability of everything from health care for veterans to environmental protections to supporting education. I urge you to reconsider these destructive layoff plans that put rigid austerity ahead of the public good. Our federal government exists to serve the needs of the people, not dismantle itself at the expense of that fundamental duty. There must be a change in course to protect essential government capabilities and the dedicated employees carrying out these critical roles.
