Protect free speech, halt unconstitutional detentions of protesters

To: Sen. Hickenlooper, Sen. Bennet, Rep. DeGette

From: A verified voter in Littleton, CO

March 30

Recent actions by the Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement raise serious constitutional concerns regarding the infringement of free speech rights and due process protections. The unlawful detentions of lawful permanent residents and students like Mahmoud Khalil, Badar Khan Suri, and Rumeysa Ozturk, who appear to have been targeted solely for their political views and peaceful protests, are unacceptable violations of the First Amendment. Depriving legal immigrants of their residency status and liberty without due process of law is an egregious overreach of executive power that sets a dangerous precedent for suppressing dissent. I urge you to take immediate action to secure the release of these individuals, restore their legal status, and hold the administration accountable for these unconstitutional actions that undermine core democratic principles and civil liberties. The right to protest is fundamental to a free society, and the government cannot selectively punish those it disagrees with by revoking their legal status without justification. Protect free speech and prevent further erosion of constitutional rights by intervening in these cases without delay.
