I am deeply alarmed by the erosion of democratic norms and freedoms in our country. President Trump’s defiance of federal court rulings and Elon Musk’s unchecked influence within the government signal a dangerous shift away from the rule of law and democratic accountability. 1. Impeach and Hold Trump Accountable: President Trump’s blatant defiance of federal court orders, such as ignoring injunctions on deportation flights, undermines judicial authority and sets a precedent for unchecked executive power. This behavior constitutes a constitutional crisis that demands impeachment proceedings and accountability. 2. Investigate and Remove Elon Musk from Government Power: Musk’s role as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) raises serious conflicts of interest, given his extensive business ties—including reliance on foreign markets like China—and his influence over agencies regulating his companies. Congress must investigate his actions and remove him if abuses are confirmed to safeguard government integrity. These actions represent broader attacks on democratic institutions. Leaders who disregard the rule of law or consolidate power without accountability threaten the freedoms that define our nation. I urge you to act decisively to protect democracy by impeaching Trump, investigating Musk, and strengthening safeguards against executive overreach. Additionally, I call on you to address other critical issues impacting our nation: • Protect public education by opposing efforts to dismantle the Department of Education. • Preserve public health programs, including the CDC’s HIV Prevention Division. • Save libraries and museums by defending funding for the Institute of Museum & Library Services (IMLS). • Reject unqualified nominations, such as Mehmet Oz for CMS Administrator. • Defend Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security from harmful cuts. • Ensure civil rights protections against unlawful ICE detentions and other abuses. • Support Ukraine in its fight for sovereignty against Russian aggression. • Safeguard national forests from unregulated logging and environmental rollbacks. • Stop federal workforce purges that destabilize government operations. • Prevent constitutional crises by ensuring accountability for abuses of power. These issues have real consequences for my family, my neighbors, and future generations. I implore you to use your voice in Congress to advocate for justice, equity, environmental stewardship, and democracy.
