Regular Americans will pay for President Trump’s import tax hikes with higher prices on things we need to buy. We’ll pay more at the pump and more at the grocery store, more for everything from clothes to shoes to fridges to water heaters to laptops to cellphones to oil to cars to homes. The average American will pay almost $4000 more a year for the exact same goods thanks to Trump. The retaliation from our trading partners will cost us jobs, and past tariffs under both Trump and Biden suggest they will not bring more jobs home to replace them. Those who think manufacturing jobs will just magically reappear in the US have no clue how long it takes to scale up manufacturing, let alone how expensive it is to do so. Trump and DOGE aren’t going to pay for it. Congress must step in. The House and Senate gave the president unilateral authority to impose tariffs, and they can revoke it or put guardrails on its use. There are multiple proposals to do just that, and you should be supporting them. I am calling on you to take action to stop this economic wrecking ball from swinging at our country. Otherwise, you will have to accept responsibility for the spiking costs and lost jobs we will have to deal with. Voters will make sure you do.
