Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele publicly mocked the court order on social media, receiving support from U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. President Trump further escalated the situation by calling for Judge Boasberg’s impeachment—a move rebuked by Chief Justice John Roberts, who emphasized that impeachment should not be a response to judicial disagreements. This incident is not isolated. The administration’s disregard for judicial authority raises alarming questions about the separation of powers and the rule of law. Legal scholars warn that such defiance could lead to a breakdown of trust in our judicial system and a potential slide into authoritarianism. Furthermore, the administration’s invocation of the Alien Enemies Act to expel undocumented immigrants without judicial review has sparked significant controversy, highlighting the administration’s willingness to bypass established legal processes. I urge you to take immediate and decisive action to address this encroachment on our judiciary. Congress must utilize all available tools to reaffirm that no individual, including the President, is above the law.
