The ridiculous and unnecessary tariffs announced by Trump are dangerous. This creates even more economic and political instability throughout the entire world. Trump's admiration for McKinley are bizarre to say the least.
Tariffs and isolation did not work in the early 20th century and surely are a worse decision in the 21st century. The global economy of the post World War II era created a sound model that we have benefitted and profited from. Trump inherited a booming and sound economy from President Biden. In his first three months in office, he's caused a crash in the stock market and that is leading to job losses (exacerbated by his firing spree of the federal government workforce)
A couple of key points here, which I know you are well aware of:
1. Congress has the power of levying tariffs. There was no national emergency, so why the MAGA led Congress ever declared an emergency and handed constitutional powers to the president is flat out wrong. This needs to be reversed and tariff powers returned to Congress
2. What are Trump's motives here? The only thing that makes sense to me is that he wants to crash the market and drive stock prices down so that he and his oligarchs can match up assets at artificially low prices and consolidate more power. Why else would he do this?
Please, you are the last line of defense here! American jobs and credibility are on the line here. Our retirement funds and savings are at risk due to this madness. Congress must act and restore the balance that was designed by the Founders when they wrote and ratified the Constitution. Please convince the moderate Republican peers that you have that this is the wrong path to go on. Stop this before it is too late.
Thank you
