I strongly oppose cuts and layoffs at the Social Security Administration (SSA). The agency plays a critical role in providing essential benefits to over 70 million retired and disabled Americans who rely on Social Security payments each month. Reducing the workforce by 12%, equating to 7,000 employees, would severely undermine the SSA's ability to serve its beneficiaries effectively. Staffing shortages will inevitably lead to longer wait times, delayed processing of claims and payments, and increased risk of errors and fraud. The potential interruption or delay of Social Security benefits could have devastating consequences for millions of vulnerable Americans who depend on these payments for their basic needs and financial stability. Instead of crippling the SSA through damaging cuts, we should prioritize strengthening and adequately funding this vital agency. Social Security is a cornerstone of our social safety net, and it has maintained the highest levels of public trust for decades. Undermining its operations and reliability would be a disservice to the American people who have paid into this system throughout their working lives. I urge you to reject any proposed cuts or layoffs at the SSA and instead work towards ensuring it has the necessary resources and staffing to continue delivering prompt and efficient service to Social Security beneficiaries. Preserving and fortifying this crucial program should be a top priority.
