The White House's executive order calling for the elimination of the Institute of Museum and Library Services is an unconscionable assault on America's libraries and the vital services they provide to communities across the nation. Libraries offer far more than just books - they are hubs for early literacy, education support, workforce development, internet access, and so much more. Defunding IMLS would devastate rural libraries in particular that depend on this modest federal funding to survive. As beacons of knowledge and opportunity, our nation's 125,000 libraries deserve robust support, not crippling cuts. This misguided decision must be reversed to uphold the right of all Americans to access the resources libraries provide that enrich minds and uplift communities. I urge you to stand up for our cherished libraries by opposing this reckless executive order.
