Reject Trump's Unconstitutional Voter Suppression Order
To: Gov. Lamont
From: A constituent in Manchester, CT
March 28
The right to vote is a cornerstone of democracy. President Trump's recent executive order attempting to require proof of citizenship for voter registration is a blatant attack on this fundamental right that would disenfranchise millions of eligible American voters. This authoritarian move unlawfully oversteps the constitutional authority of states to regulate their own elections. We must stand firm in rejecting this undemocratic overreach that threatens the integrity of free and fair elections. As our elected representative, you have a solemn duty to safeguard our democratic process from such cynical power grabs. I urge you to forcefully condemn and work to block implementation of this voter suppression scheme in our state. Defend the voice of the people at the ballot box. Uphold the constitutional separation of powers by protecting our state's sovereign control over its electoral system from this attack by the federal government. Our democracy depends on your principled leadership on this critical issue.
