Clarify NSA leadership dismissals for national cybersecurity preparedness

To: Rep. Turner, Sen. Husted, Sen. Moreno

April 4

The reported firing of National Security Agency Director Gen. Tim Haugh and his deputy Wendy Noble is deeply concerning. Their dismissal without explanation raises questions about the administration's priorities and commitment to national security. At a time when cyber threats are increasing, removing experienced leaders who uphold the rule of law jeopardizes the nation's ability to defend against such risks. This action calls for immediate clarification from the White House regarding the rationale behind these personnel decisions. Haugh's long and distinguished military career serving the interests of the United States should be cause for retaining him, not terminating his role. The American people deserve transparency on matters impacting our cyber defenses and overall security posture. Replacing seasoned professionals with unknown successors undermines stability and expertise at a critical juncture. I urge the administration to provide a full accounting of the circumstances leading to Haugh and Noble's reported dismissals. Our national security should transcend partisan politics. Experienced leadership focused on safeguarding America's interests must be the top priority in defending against rapidly evolving cyber threats from hostile actors. Hasty actions that weaken our cybersecurity preparedness are unacceptable and deserve intense scrutiny.
