The Department of Education plays a vital role in promoting student achievement and ensuring equal access to education for all. Its current organization is carefully structured with offices dedicated to key areas like civil rights, student aid, special education, and policy development. We need to improve education, not dismantle it, if we want our future citizens to be able to compete in a global market. Reorganizing or decentralizing the Department could undermine its ability to fulfill its critical mission and responsibilities. Congress must act to preserve the Department's integrity and protect the interests of students across the nation. I urge you to support H.R. 433, the Department of Education Protection Act, which would prohibit funds from being used to reorganize or alter the Department's structure and operations from their current state as of January 1, 2025. Maintaining the Department's existing framework is essential for upholding educational equity and opportunities for all students.
