I am writing to urge you to stand with Alaska’s working families and oppose President Trump’s recent executive order aimed at stripping collective bargaining rights from over 700,000 federal civil servants. This executive order is not only illegal—it is an outright attack on the nurses, scientists, veterans, and countless other dedicated individuals who serve our country and keep our communities strong.
Alaska has one of the highest concentrations of federal workers in the nation, and this order will disproportionately harm our state. These are our neighbors, our family members, and our friends—people who work every day to make Alaska a better place. Taking away their right to collectively bargain is an attack on their dignity, their voice, and their ability to advocate for safe, fair, and equitable workplaces.
As Joelle Hall, President of the Alaska AFL-CIO, said: “This is an all-out attack on working families and collective bargaining rights. The billionaire class is taking away the only tool workers have that’s proven to level the playing field.”
Throughout history, Americans have fought and even died to secure the right to organize. We cannot allow that hard-won right to be dismantled by executive fiat. Silence in the face of this kind of overreach is complicity. I urge you to speak out forcefully and take action to reverse this order and protect the rights of all workers.
Now is the time for solidarity—not only as Alaskans, but as Americans who believe in fairness, freedom, and democracy in the workplace.
Thank you for your attention and your leadership.
