VA should be exempt from RTO

To: Sen. McConnell, Rep. Guthrie, Sen. Paul

From: A constituent in Fisherville, KY

March 19

The VA should be exempt from the RTO. The care at the VA is going to be greatly affected by the RTO order. Many providers work remotely (pharmacists, social workers, psychiatry, primary care providers) because there is NOT an office for them. People were hired to work remote and these people have no office to return too. To say we are to “return” is misguided. We were never given an office. People moved several hours from VA because they were hired to not come into the office. In our interviews the job was posted to be remote. We aren’t working remote because of COVID. Those of us hired as telehealth employees have nowhere to go. They have no offices. Most will have to quit because of the 3 hour commute. This will greatly impact the care that Veterans receive. This is why the VA should be exempt from the RTO.
