Protecting Judicial Independence and Safety

To: Sen. Liston, Rep. Lett, Gov. DeWine

From: A constituent in Columbus, OH

March 17

I am reaching out with deep concern about the increasing public targeting of judges based on their rulings. Recent reports have highlighted instances where judges’ photos are being broadcast on national television alongside criticism, and where influential figures are sharing personal details about judges and their families. These actions raise serious concerns about judicial safety and independence. A fair and impartial judiciary is essential to our democracy. Judges must be able to rule based on the law, free from political or personal intimidation. Regardless of party, all Americans benefit when our courts operate without fear of retaliation. I urge you to publicly affirm the importance of judicial independence and support measures to ensure that judges and their families are protected from harassment or threats. If there are legislative steps that can reinforce these protections, I hope you will consider championing them. I would appreciate hearing your thoughts on how we can work together to uphold the integrity of our justice system. Thank you for your time and service.
