An Open Letter

To: Sen. Lankford, Rep. Hern, Sen. Mullin

From: A constituent in Broken Arrow, OK

March 5

Credibility and truth should be the foundation of governance and public discourse. President Trump's recent address to Congress was riddled with falsehoods that Republicans enabled and applauded. This willful detachment from reality undermines our democratic principles and sows distrust among the electorate. The president made blatantly untrue claims about economic progress, free speech protections, and America's standing in the world. He touted imaginary accomplishments while ignoring legitimate data and expert analysis contradicting his narrative. Republicans blindly cheered these distortions, seemingly more invested in partisan allegiance than holding the president accountable to facts. If our elected representatives cannot acknowledge objective truths and reject demonstrable lies, no matter the source, they abdicate their duty to serve the public good. A sustainable democracy requires leaders of integrity who respect the citizens they represent enough to be honest with them, even when politically inconvenient. I implore you and your colleagues to reclaim the high ground of principled governance. Challenge the president's falsehoods, call for truthful rhetoric, and recommit yourselves to promoting policies grounded in reality, not fictions that betray the public's trust. Restoring bipartisan credibility starts with an unwavering adherence to the truth. The future of our democracy may depend on it.
