Stop Deportations without Due Process

To: Sen. Duckworth, Sen. Durbin, Rep. Krishnamoorthi

From: A constituent in Mount Prospect, IL

April 1

I’m a constituent. As we know, there’s no shortage of despicable acts of this Administration to push back on. From Signalgate to shutting down USAID to threatening to defund the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, there is so much to protest. Today, my heart is telling me to write about the cruel renditions and deportations of legal residents, especially to El Salvador, without the due process that is guaranteed by the Constitution. Just today, we are hearing that the U.S. government knowingly deported a legal immigrant—a father and husband to US citizens—to a brutal prison in El Salvador. He had legal protection. He had no criminal record. ICE admitted it was an “administrative error.” It is beyond comprehension that the Administration isn’t doing anything to bring Kilmar Abrego Garcia back to his family. Presumably, the US is paying a lot of money to El Salvador so there must be leverage ability. The cruelty and lack of empathy that this Administration continues to perpetrate is staggering and heartbreaking. Anything you can do to address this situation would be appreciated. Thank you for your attention.
