The continued issuing of ultimatums and threats of violence against Hamas does little to resolve the complex situation in Gaza and bring about a lasting peace. Instead, it only escalates tensions and endangers more innocent lives on both sides. As the leader of a nation founded on human rights and democratic values, threatening entire populations with death crosses a dangerous line. We should be using all diplomatic channels available to facilitate the release of hostages through negotiation and upholding international law. Resorting to hostile rhetoric and promises of military force will only breed more conflict in a region that has seen far too much bloodshed already. I urge you to reconsider this unproductive approach of ultimatums and instead pursue a path of principled dialogue that upholds human rights and brings a just resolution for all those impacted by this crisis.
