Pay Taxes, Not Forced-Birth Organizations

To: Sen. Lewis, Gov. Kehoe, Rep. Johnson

From: A verified voter in Kansas City, MO

March 11

ProPublica is reporting that there is a bill coming up in the Missouri legislature that would allow MO residents to donate to "crisis pregnancy centers" in lieu of paying state taxes. This is blatantly illogical. "Crisis pregnancy centers" are organizations that interfere with legitimate medical care and are only focused on making sure women carry a pregnancy to term. They do not offer any assistance to new mothers after the child is born. The people of Missouri approved an amendment to our state constitution stating that abortion is a right. The state government is desperately trying to overturn the will of the people. Again. This bill is outrageous and should not be allowed to make it out of committee. Allowing residents to bypass taxes by donating to forced-birth organizations does not help improve the lives of any Missourian.
