Discussing war plans on Signal is unacceptable and requires immediate attention

March 26
I hope we can agree that Pete Hegseth and Mike Walz, and possibly others on the Signal group chat recently exposed by The Atlantic, should resign. Now that the Atlantic has published the actual war plans that were shared on Signal by cabinet officials such as Pete Hegseth, Mike Walz, JD Vance, and others, we can confirm that Jeffery Goldberg of the Atlantic was being truthful. In fact, having now seen the screen shots, I can confirm that it is worse than I had imagined upon first hearing the story. Signal, is. a non-approved channel for classified government communication. It turns out that the Pentagon sent out a memo that warned against using Signal for both classified and non-classified information. But the memo sent March 18th of this year was not the only memo sent. In 2023 the Pentagon sent a memo about the use of Signal. This makes it clear that at the very least, Pete Hegseth and other high cabinet officials do not know or understand the protocols in place, or even worse, they do know and choose to ignore them. Equally as outrageous as the sharing of classified war plans, is the cover up that is now being trotted out. Pete Hegseth said the reporter was lying, that no war plans were shared. We now know definitively that war plans were shared. Pete Hegseth was the one who was lying. Tulsi Gabbard and John Ratcliff lied in front of Congress when they said they did not share classified information on Signal. Even the president has partaken in the cover up by attempting to minimalize the gravity of this situation. No other administration has demonstrated this level of incompetence and disregard for the safety of our military, our citizens, and the citizens around the globe. As the daughter of a man who fought in WW 2, whose high school yearbook was filled not with lighthearted well wishes, but with the determination of a senior class who were proud of enlisting and doing their part to beat fascism, I am disgusted by the actions taken on the now exposed Signal chat. Though I miss my father each and every day, I am so glad he did not live long enough to see this. It would have crushed his soul. And as a grandmother whose grandchild is currently in the military, I am terrified. Pete Hegseth has shown us that he is not interested in the safety of our military. He has put all of them in danger. I am also haunted by the fact that if they did this once, they have done it before. The careless discussion involving our national security that was exposed by The Atlantic could not be a one off. They were much too cavalier and jovial; they were very comfortable using the Signal platform for any of us to believe this is not their usual method of communication. And that is unacceptable. Please show your support of not only your constituents, but for all Americans by calling for the resignation of Pete Hegseth and Mike Walz. And please follow up by holding a town hall to discuss this situation. Thank you.
