An Open Letter

To: Sen. Gillibrand, Sen. Schumer, Rep. Velázquez

From: A constituent in Brooklyn, NY

March 18

I urge you to reject H.R. 425, the Repealing Big Brother Overreach Act. This bill would repeal the Corporate Transparency Act, which requires corporations and limited liability companies to disclose their true beneficial owners to the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) at the time the company is formed. This transparency measure helps combat money laundering, terrorism financing, tax evasion, and other financial crimes by making it harder for bad actors to hide behind anonymous shell companies. Repealing these disclosure requirements would be a significant step backwards in our efforts to crack down on illicit finance. For the sake of security, accountability, and the integrity of our financial system, H.R. 425 should not be passed into law.
