We can no longer deny or keep waiting - we have reached an unequivocal constitutional crisis.
The president has not only ignored direct court orders but has now called for the impeachment of a federal judge for ruling in a way Trump did not like.
For nearly 250 years, judges have been issuing orders that one side or the other disagreed with. That is why we have a robust system of appeals. What we have not had, and the reason we can point to 250 years of American history, is a power-obsessed president who wholeheartedly believes that anyone who disagrees with him should be discarded, no matter the legality of the situation.
I am not being dramatic when I say that this will be the end of our republic as we know it if Trump is allowed to continue to bulldoze over our laws, our courts, our constitution.
Congress has already allowed him to strip them of much of their constitutional power. Now he is coming for the judiciary. He is following a textbook path towards authoritarianism, and anyone who refuses to see this or props him up on that path is complicit in the death of the Great Experiment.
It’s not too late, though we are quickly approaching that line.
Stand up. Take back your power. Defend our country and what we stand for. Tell Trump unequivocally that America has no kings, no dictators.
If you fail in this, the blood of the United States is on your hands.
