Budget and School Vouchers

To: Rep. DeLaney, Sen. Taylor

From: A constituent in Indianapolis, IN

March 16

I am writing to express my strong opposition to the proposed budget that includes provisions for school vouchers. While I understand the intention to provide families with more educational choices, I believe that allocating public funds to private institutions undermines the foundation of our public education system. School vouchers divert critical resources away from public schools, which serve the majority of our children, including those from underprivileged backgrounds. This redirection can lead to larger class sizes, reduced extracurricular programs, and diminished support services, ultimately affecting the quality of education for countless students. Moreover, private schools are not held to the same accountability standards as public schools, potentially leading to disparities in educational quality and transparency. Public funds should be used to strengthen and improve public schools, ensuring that every child, regardless of socioeconomic status, receives a quality education. I urge you to reconsider the inclusion of school vouchers in the budget and advocate for policies that support and enhance our public education system.
