I am contacting you to request you reject H. 3457, the proposed total abortion ban in South Carolina. This dangerous bill would strip residents of their reproductive rights and put lives at risk. A ProPublica investigation found that similar legislation in Texas led to a over 50% increase in cases of life-threatening sepsis among pregnant women and caused numerous preventable deaths. Doctors were forced to delay critical interventions due to vague exceptions, allowing deadly infections to take hold before they could legally act. Banning abortion does not stop the need for the procedure - it only makes it exponentially more dangerous. Healthcare providers should never be criminalized for providing evidence-based, necessary medical care. This bill prioritizes rigid ideology over established medical ethics and real-world outcomes. South Carolinians deserve access to the full range of reproductive healthcare options without government overreach or fear of prosecution. Preserving bodily autonomy and preventing needless suffering must be the priorities. I implore you to vote against H. 3457 and uphold South Carolinians' human rights.
