The Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP) plays a crucial role in safeguarding vulnerable institutions, including synagogues and Jewish organizations, from potential threats. The temporary funding freeze imposed by FEMA has caused significant delays and uncertainties, jeopardizing the security of these establishments. As representatives entrusted with the well-being of our communities, it is imperative to take immediate action to restore funding for the NSGP. The program enables synagogues and other Jewish institutions to implement vital security measures, such as impact-resistant windows, security cameras, and bollards, which are essential in preventing and mitigating potential attacks. With rising antisemitism and heightened security concerns, the need for robust security measures has become more pressing than ever. Failing to provide adequate funding for the NSGP would leave these institutions vulnerable and compromise the safety of individuals who seek refuge and community within their walls. Furthermore, the delays in disbursing the additional $210 million allocated by Congress last year have left many organizations in a precarious position, unable to access the resources needed to fortify their security infrastructure. This funding was intended to address the growing security demands and should be swiftly released to the intended recipients. I implore you to take immediate action to restore funding for the Nonprofit Security Grant Program and ensure the timely distribution of allocated resources. The safety and well-being of our communities depend on your leadership and commitment to upholding the principles of security and inclusivity for all.
