Ohio's Republican-dominated legislature is dangerously pushing bills to call for a Constitutional Convention, which could open the door to eroding foundational rights and civil liberties enshrined in our nation's founding document. This reckless pursuit of rewriting the Constitution disregards the fragility of our democratic institutions and the need to safeguard them, rather than jeopardize them through radical reforms. The impulse to undermine the Constitution stems from an alarming disregard for democratic norms and a contempt for the system of checks and balances that has preserved our republic for over two centuries. Alarmingly, one of the primary sponsors previously advocated for civil war if his preferred candidate lost, underscoring the extremist motivations behind this misguided effort. We must resolutely reject any attempts to renegotiate the Constitution through a convention, as it risks dismantling the very rights and freedoms that define the United States. Our Constitutional rights are not bargaining chips to be traded away by those seeking to consolidate power. Preserving the integrity of our democracy demands vigilance against such treacherous proposals that threaten the foundations of our nation. Upholding the Constitution is a sacred duty, not a partisan exercise.
