I am writing today to voice my concerns about the mass firings happening at CDC on April 1st. As you know, RFK Jr has eliminated many life-saving and essential programs from CDC in the name of fraud and waste. These including programs such as childhood lead poisoning prevention, asthma and air quality, blood disorders, disability health in kids, tuberculosis elimination, prevention and lab capacity for sexually transmitted diseases, immunization services, among many many others. Perhaps most disturbing of all is the elimination of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, which has been a standing part of American health since 1914 under various names and more robustly established as NIOSH in 1970. There is no other agency or group committed to protecting the health and safety of the American working class as intensely and scientifically. If the new administration really cared about the working class, I would expect them to bolster this institute instead of tear it down. NIOSH protects and improves the quality of life of millions, nevermind the economic logic, since healthy working people pay taxes to the govt and are less likely to become disabled due to their jobs and rely on public support programs. hese firings are abhorrent and are violent actions against the people of the united states, as well as against the federal workers, many of whom are ALSO your constituents, who have dedicated their lives to public service. Their salaries make up less than 1% of the budget for the department of health and human services. These reductions in force and elimination of programs will have a detrimental effect on money from CDC going to state and local health departments and programs, including Ohio. The loss of funding, expertise, services, guidance, outreach, and nationally available data on this broad range of health topics is devastating and I hope as my representative, you will do everything you can to oppose these losses. My vote depends on it.
