Keep Ohioans safe from the federal government’s illegal trafficking!
To: Gov. DeWine, Sen. Huffman, Rep. Newman
From: A constituent in West Milton, OH
March 17
Okay so as a constituent from the state of Ohio I want to know, are you as state officials complicit in the United States government explicitly and blatantly human trafficking individuals to El Salvador? Despite a court order from a judge to return the people? What does this mean for the people of Ohio? If they can do this and ignore the courts, they could do this to anyone. US deports hundreds of Venezuelans "despite" court order. The United States is deporting people without due process, sending them to labor camps in El Salvador, and paying the Salvadoran government for it. Inmates would perform forced labor for at least a year, possibly more, and that the “United States will pay a very low fee for them.”” On the face of it, it looks like there is now a full constitutional crisis in United States, in that the executive is now freely ignoring court orders. Crisis point reached. Marco Rubio retweeted the El Salvadoran President jokingly with a laugh emoji. Seems like an escalation to take so much glee in the torture of innocent people A federal court’s jurisdiction does *not* stop at the water’s edge. The question is whether the *defendants* are subject to the court order, not *where* the conduct being challenged takes place. Were it otherwise, the government could act lawlessly overseas and courts would be powerless to stop it. If the White House doesn’t like a federal judge’s ruling they should appeal it, not ignore it. Absent a valid justification, the government officials responsible should be held in contempt. It seems very clear that the Administration decided not to abide by the court's order. The question now is what will the judge do. Does he proceed with contempt or something short of that to defuse. The whole point is we don’t know if they are ‘foreign alien terrorists’! That’s the whole point of due process, and evidence, and a courtroom. We don’t take the government’s say so, especially a government with a history of relentless mendacity. This is all just awful, a clear and enormous human rights violation. Labor camps. We sent them to labor camps in another country, in defiance of court order, without any due process. Are you going to do something about this? Are you going to let Trump and his administration ignore court orders and due process? We are in constitutional crisis mode and I urge and beg you as your constituent to do what is right and stand against this blatant human trafficking. Make Ohio a safe place and make it so we don’t have to worry about our federal government sending us to work camps.
