Restore crucial public health funding, join multi-state legal action

To: Sen. Schroer, Rep. West, Gov. Kehoe

April 1

The Trump administration's decision to rescind $12 billion in federal funds allocated for crucial public health initiatives like COVID-19 response, addiction treatment, and mental health programs is deeply concerning. This abrupt move jeopardizes the progress made in combating the opioid crisis, disrupts mental health services, and undermines hospitals' ability to provide quality care. The consequences of these cuts will reverberate across communities nationwide, reversing hard-won gains and leaving vulnerable populations at risk. As a coalition of 23 states has rightly challenged this unlawful action in court, it is imperative that Missouri joins this legal effort. Attorney General Andrew Bailey must stand up for the welfare of Missourians and fight to restore this vital funding. Failing to do so would be a dereliction of duty, with potentially devastating impacts on public health and safety within our state. The people of Missouri deserve leadership that prioritizes their well-being over partisan politics. Attorney General Bailey should heed the call of his counterparts across the nation and take immediate legal action to protect the resources necessary for safeguarding the health and lives of all Missourians. The abrupt termination of these funds cannot be allowed to undermine the crucial work of healthcare providers, addiction specialists, and public health officials in our communities.
