The Georgia Senate's passage of SB 30 to ban puberty blockers for transgender youth is a harmful and discriminatory measure that fails to consider the well-being of an already vulnerable group. Puberty blockers are safe, reversible treatments that buy time for transgender children to explore their identity without undergoing irreversible changes. Denying access to this care puts these youth at higher risk of depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation. Rather than pandering to misinformed biases, lawmakers should listen to medical experts who overwhelmingly agree that puberty blockers are vital, evidence-based care for transgender youth. Attempting to legislate the existence of transgender people out of society is unethical and unconstitutional. All Georgians deserve access to appropriate medical care free from government overreach into private healthcare decisions. I urge you to protect the rights and lives of LGBTQ+ Georgians by opposing SB 30 and any other legislation that discriminates against this community. These misguided measures perpetuate harm and marginalization. As elected leaders, your constituents need you to stand against fear-mongering and defend the liberty and dignity of all people.
