Reassert congressional power of the purse through continuing resolution

To: Sen. Peters, Sen. Slotkin, Rep. McDonald Rivet

From: A verified voter in Linden, MI

March 7

The continued impoundment of congressionally appropriated funds represents an existential threat to our democratic system of checks and balances. A short-term continuing resolution alone is insufficient to uphold constitutional principles and reassert legislative prerogatives. More forceful action is imperative to prevent further consolidation of power and defiance of the rule of law. Refusing to enable the systematic dismantling of democratic institutions through the power of the purse may require withholding cooperation until robust accountability measures and ironclad funding safeguards are instituted. The stakes are too high for an incremental response – a resolute defense of democracy and the separation of powers is urgently warranted.
