An open letter to the U.S. Senate (Maine only)

If you can't keep your oath to the Constitution, RESIGN. Stop this betrayal.

14 so far! Help us get to 25 signers!

I am writing to call on you to resign if you are unwilling or unable to honor your oath to uphold and defend the constitution. In most workplaces, if an employee fails to carry out their work or brings the place of employment into disrepute, they would be shown the door. Perhaps you have forgotten that you were elected in Maine and that you are honored to serve the people of Maine? Perhaps you forgot that you swore to defend the constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic. Since Trump's return, he has issued illegal and unconstitutional executive orders without cease. He has also failed to ensure that the laws are faithfully executed. As chair of the appropriations committee, you had a special opportunity to defend the constitutionally enshrined power of the purse. You have the power to subpoena Russell Vought who is also committing illegal and unconstitutional acts-- and made clear that he would do so before his confirmation. With the grave responsibility of your oath and the power of your role as Appropriations chair, you did nothing. Constituents warned you of the danger of Tulsi Gabbard to our national security and the danger of RFK jr to our health. You told us that they were qualified and voted for them. Have you forgotten that you nixed over 85 highly qualified Biden nominees? You now say that a president should have his people -- have you forgotten that the senate's role to "advise and consent" on nominees does not mean to act as a rubber stamp? The republican sensors collective failure to hold a lawless president to account during a coup is an abject disgrace. It is a betrayal. It is also a tragedy, threatening the end of our democracy. The GOP house and senate are bringing Congress into disrepute. If you are not willing, able, or courageous, enough to honor the solemn oath you swore to the constitution, please resign now and make way for someone who will serve with courage and integrity.
