Hold Approps Cttee hearings now: don't cede Congressional power

In your capacity as Appropriations chair, you can investigate, expose the truth, call witnesses, use subpoenas, and make criminal and judicial referrals. Yet the calendar for your committee is blank for March and April. By now the American people see that Trump and Musk have usurped the rightful constitutional powers of Congress to appropriate. We have also seen how the illegal cuts at agencies such as USAID have real life consequences, causing or exacerbating hunger, illness, and deaths, increasing the spread of disease. And we know that delays in reinstating federal employees can cause long term damage to the work of those agencies and the people who depend on them. Let me remind you of Judge Chuang's decision about the shuttering of USAID. In the words of Heather Cox Richardson: "U.S. District Judge Theodore D. Chuang also sought to stop the administration’s power grab. In a scathing 68-page decision, Chuang found that the actions of Elon Musk and the “Department of Government Efficiency” to destroy the United States Agency for International Development, or USAID, “likely violated the United States Constitution in multiple ways.” Chuang explained that the destruction of USAID hurt not only the 26 current or recently fired employees and contractors of USAID who had filed a lawsuit against Elon Musk and the “Department of Government Efficiency.” That destruction also hurt “the public interest, because they deprived the public’s elected representatives in Congress of their constitutional authority to decide whether, when, and how to close down an agency created by Congress.”" By doing nothing to expose or oppose the illegal DOGE disruption and illegal presidential impounding of Congressionally appropriated funds, you have enabled these shocking and criminal actions. And you have allowed the power of your committee to be negated. * I ask you to convene your committee, call witnesses, hold public hearings, expose the actions of DOGE and document the damage caused. Then issue criminal and judicial referrals. This is how you uphold your oath to the constitution.
