An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Do not treat this administration as business as usual. Stop this coup.

The Trump administration and Elon Musk are engaged in a dangerous power grab that threatens our democracy and the well-being of millions of Americans. Their attempts to defund critical programs like Medicaid, SNAP, and consumer protections while handing over control of federal finances to an unelected billionaire ally are outrageous abuses of power. It is imperative that Congress use every tool at its disposal to rein in this authoritarian overreach and protect our democratic institutions. Senate Democrats must hold the line firmly against any funding bill that enables the administration's sabotage or surrenders oversight to Musk. Refuse to support anything less than ironclad safeguards against further executive overreach. Make full use of procedural tactics to grind Trump's agenda to a halt if Republicans will not negotiate in good faith. The public overwhelmingly rejects this reckless coup attempt - now is the time to fight for the will of the people over the narrow self-interests of a tyrannical few.
