Attacks on the independence of the judiciary are a recognised ploy by rulers engaged in fascist coups. Please speak out now against the brazen illegality of Trump's recent actions & his attack on Judge Boasberg. Trump didn't just defy the judge's order to turn a plane around: Marco Rubio mocked the order; Trump then launched a tirade of lies and abuse, calling for the judge to be impeached. Trump's tirade is chilling: Like Henry II's legendary question "will no one rid me of this turbulent priest" , it may be interpreted as a call for violence, stochastic violence. For a president to seek defy and court order & seek removal of a judge who disagrees with him is an assault on constitutional order, on the division of power, on checks & balances, on democracy itself. Please speak against this; call for bar association investigations/disbarring of the DOJ attorneys who lied to Judge Boasberg & refused to cooperate. Now read Heather Cox Richardson on Trump firing the Democratic members of the FTC: "Trump continued his attack on the rule of law today when he fired the two Democratic commissioners at the Federal Trade Commission, which protects consumers from collusion and anti-consumer practices. The firings leave only two Republicans on the commission & leave it without a quorum... Beginning with the 1935 case of Humphrey’s Executor v. United States, the courts have established that the president cannot fire officials in agencies created by Congress without a serious reason like neglect of duties. Legal analyst Mark Joseph Stern wrote: “Trump’s action here is brazenly illegal under any interpretation of the law as it stands.”" * Congress has so far not defended itself against the brazenly illegal usurping by Trump of the congressional power of appropriations. Now judges are defending constitutional order. Judge Chuang ruled (in a case about Musk's dismantling of USAID): "to destroy the United States Agency for International Development, or USAID, “likely violated the United States Constitution in multiple ways.”" It also damaged "the public interest, because they deprived the public’s elected representatives in Congress of their constitutional authority to decide whether, when, and how to close down an agency created by Congress.” Any single one of the actions listed -- defying a court order, attacking a judge, illegal firings at a federal agency, illegal shuttering of a federal agency-- is worthy of impeachment. These are high crimes & misdemeanours, brazenly illegal, negating the constitution & rule of law. Are you inured to this brazen illegality? Please, honor your oath to the constitution.
